Dr. Chang Qing Cao joined Pharmaron as Vice President of CNS & Pain Pharmacology in November 2011. Prior to this position, Dr. Cao held several managerial and senior scientific positions at AstraZeneca R&D Montreal since 1997. He was the Section Head leading the Neural Mechanisms Team to support all AstraZeneca CNS and Pain drug-hunting projects. In recognition of his contributions and discoveries, Dr. Cao and his section received an AstraZeneca “Breakthrough Award” in 2010 and an “Innovation Medicine Star” in 2011. Dr. Cao has over 30 years of experience in neuroscience biology and 15 years of industrial experience in drug discovery. He is the author of over 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications, 3 book chapters and >80 presentations at international conferences.
 
Dr. Cao received his Ph.D. in 1990 in Neuropharmacology and Electrophysiology with Prof. Li-Xia Zhu from China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1991, Dr. Cao moved to the United Kingdom and worked for one year as a visiting Research Fellow in the Dept. of Preclinical Sciences, Univ. of Edinburgh; 5 years as a Senior Research Fellow in the Dept. of Pharmacology, School of Medical Sciences, Univ. of Bristol; and one year as a Senior Research Fellow in the Dept. of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Univ. of London.
