Dalei Shao, Ph.D.
Senior Director, Molecular and Cellular Biology
Dr. Dalei Shao joined Pharmaron as Senior Director of Molecular and Cellular Biology in April 2011. Prior to this appointment, she worked at Sundia MediTech in Shanghai, China for nearly 2 years. Dr. Shao has 8 years of US pharmaceutical experience including a post at Wyeth Women’s Healthy Research Institute from 1999 to 2004. At Wyeth, she initiated a new target and HTS program and later served as biology team leader for a backup program that was delivered to preclinical development. She later joined Merck from 2004-2006 and made critical contributions in initiating and developing HTS strategies for a program that reached late-phase clinical trials.
Dr. Shao has extensive knowledge in NRs as drug targets and has worked with several other drug targets in different therapeutic areas including oncology, endocrinology and metabolic disorders. She is equipped with broad experiences in target validation, assay development, SAR support and has diverse management experiences.
Dr. Shao had published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals including first authorship in Nature, JCI and JBC. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1996 at Drexel University Hahnemann School of Medicine. She then joined Dr. Mitch Lazar’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania for her post-doctoral training. Dr. Shao obtained her B.S. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Hangzhou University, China.
