Puwen Zhang, Ph.D.
Vice President, Medicinal Chemistry
Dr. Puwen Zhang joined Pharmaron in early 2010 as Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry, bringing with him over 15 years of experience in drug discovery & development with expertise in women’s health and CNS. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Zhang held various senior scientific positions with increasing responsibilities at Wyeth and later at Pfizer, where he most recently was a group leader and Discovery Project Chemistry Leader. During his career with Wyeth, Dr. Zhang made critical contributions to the discovery of numerous clinical drug candidates (e.g. tanaproget, PRA-910, NRI-992, NRI-231) for the treatment of disease conditions including pain, vasomotor symptoms, contraception and fibroids.
He is an author or co-author of over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations and is also an inventor of more than 80 patents or patent applications including 48 granted US patents. Dr. Zhang has received numerous awards and was twice a winner of the Wyeth highest research award.
Dr. Zhang obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1993 in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry with Prof. R. Ian Fryer at Rutgers University and received post-doctoral training in University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with Prof. James M. Cook.
