Chemistry Overview

Synthetic and medicinal chemistry service is one of Pharmaron’s major focuses and also the largest business unit. Under the leadership of a strong and experienced synthetic and medicinal chemistry management team, over 3000 chemists are making compounds every day in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet our partners’ needs. Chemistry experience and expertise include the following major areas:

  • Synthetic organic chemistry: Multi-step synthesis skills, heterocyclic compounds, organometallic, organoboron and organofluorine chemistry
  • Library / High-throughput chemistry: Parallel synthesis, building blocks and novel scaffolds, general and focused libraries.
  • Synthetic bioorganic chemistry: Nucleosides and nucleotides, lipids, carbohydrates, peptides and bioconjugate chemistry
  • Chiral chemistry: Pharmaron “Chiral Suite”, asymmetric synthesis, chiral separation, chiral resolution.
  • Medicinal chemistry: Hit ID, hit-to-lead, lead optimization, multi-dimensional SAR analysis (in vitro biology, ADME, in vivo PK, in vivo pharmacology, safety profiling), drug candidate selection
  • Process and scale-up chemistry: Route discovery & development, scale-up in Kg scale and tech transfer to chemical development division (CMC)
  • Radiochemistry: Carbon-14 and tritium labelledchemical synthesis, GMP synthesis of carbon-14 labelled materials, state-of-the-art QC facilities for radiochemicals

Productivity, efficiency/speed and innovation/problem solving skills in our chemistry services are further enhanced by using the centralized company-wide resources in the following functional areas:

  • Analytical chemistry and compounds separation/purification
  • Chemical technology center of excellence
  • Computational chemistry (CADD for medchem and integrated projects) and cheminformatics (web-based data management system CEDAR, E-notes, ELN and reagents database)
  • QC and compounds management
  • Material sourcing team and reagents collection
  • State-of-the-art laboratory maintenance team
