Presenter

Prof. Guangbin Dong – Department of Chemistry, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, USA

In this lecture, Prof. Guangbin Dong discussed a unique approach potentially offered by the palladium/norbornene (Pd/NBE) cooperative catalysis to achieve site-selectivity in arene functionalization that is complementary to the one from electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. Its usage has been hampered by “three constraints”: the electrophile constraint, the arene substrate constraint, and the “ortho constraint”. Prof. Guangbin Dong showed that all these three constraints could be addressed through designing the electrophiles, phosphine ligands and norbornene ligands.
