Versatile Tumor Models for Animal Testing

Pharmaron offers one of the largest portfolios of tumor models to test the efficacy of compounds in animals. Choosing the right tumor model is critical for generating meaningful efficacy data by enabling study design based on tumor biology, genetic background, immune context, resistance mechanisms, and translational goals.

Access to 1,500 CDX Tumor Models

Cell line-derived xenograft models are the workhorses for small molecule research. By providing a large number of tumor models, our clients can select the right model based on target, mutations, mechanism of action, and tumor type

110 Syngeneic Models to Support Immuno-Oncology Studies

Testing immune-modulating drugs requires the selection of the right models to evaluate the tumor-immune interactions, immune phenotypes, and response variability. Combined with biomarker and ex vivo analyses, our clients get to see the full picture of their compound’s effects beyond changes in tumor volume.

Orthotopic and Metastatic Tumor Models

To investigate a compound’s efficacy within the tumor’s tissue of origin, we have established 200 orthotopic and metastatic tumor models. We have perfected the associated surgical procedures over many years of experience to achieve high study success rates. Access to our IVIS whole-body imaging systems allows monitoring of tumor growth.

PDX-Testing Platform

About 300 PDX models are available for efficacy studies that were verified for growth and take rates. Molecular characterization, including oncogene profiling and exome sequencing data is available for model selection. An organoid-testing platform (with or without co-culture of immune cells) is available to investigate the treatment responses before moving into animal studies.

Humanized Tumor Models

Humanized mouse models combine human tumors with a functional human immune system, enabling evaluation of immunotherapies, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and other immune-modulating approaches.

Drug Resistant Tumor Models

If we do not have the required drug-resistant tumor model in our portfolio, new tumor models can be generated in three ways: i. identification of resistant tumor cell lines through in vitro screening, ii. generation of a drug-resistant cell line through genetic engineering or iii. long-term incubation of tumor cells in the presence of the drug by our in-house cell line generation team.

Genetically Engineered Tumor Models

Transgenic tumor cell lines are generated in-house using CRISPR technology or conventional cell line engineering approaches. Subsequently, we establish mouse tumor models for compound efficacy testing.
