Presentation Overview
Professor Ito explored four key areas within mechanochemistry:
- Suzuki-Miyaura and Buchwald-Hartwig couplings under mechanochemical conditions;
- enabling reactions with insoluble compounds;
- application of mechanochemistry to small molecule reactions; and
- generation and utilization of mechanochemical radicals from polymers.

Prof. Hajime Ito
Prof. Ito received his B.Sc. degree from Kyoto University in 1991 and his Ph.D. degree in 1996 under the guidance of Professor Yoshihiko Ito. In 1996, he began his professional career as an Assistant Professor at Tsukuba University, and in 1999, he joined the Institute for Molecular Science as an Assistant Professor. In 2001, he served as a Visiting Researcher at the Scripps Research Institute under the supervision of Professor Kim D. Janda. In 2002, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University. Since 2010, he has served as a Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, Hokkaido University. From 2018 onward, he has also served as Vice Director at the Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (WPI-ICReDD). Since 2022, he has been appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Hokkaido University. He is currently affiliated with the Division of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
